An Antique restored!

Image
This is my dads great grandmas table. Apparently, my sister painted it a long time ago to be used as a craft table in her room. It was a very artistic paint job, fit for a craft room. This is what the table looked like when it was given to us about a month ago. Thads dad started with paint stripper. That took a bunch of the paint off. Then he sanded what he could off with the sander. Then he and Thad (and me too) took a flat screw driver to chisle the remaining paint out of the grooves in the table legs. Here is the table with half of its first coat of stain. And here is the almost finished product! It is absolutely beautiful! I think I over heard something about it getting one more coat of finish in the morning, and then it will be done! Thanks mom and dad for handing down this table for us! We plan to take good care of it!

Raquelle and Kezzy napping together...except Kezzy is awake. Titus playing with his baby sister. He calls her "baby Key" And this is what happens when you tell a 2 yr old to go change her clothes.

Bonding

Image
Sister we shall never part, Friends forever from the start! If Kezzy is awake, Raquelle hardly leaves her side! If she is in her infant seat, Raquelle will drag her seat over to sit by her. If she is on a play mat, Raquelle tries to climb on it with her. If she is having tummy time, Raquelle lays down on her tummy next to her and talks to her and makes faces. If I am burping her, Raquelle tries to help. So today I let Raquelle feed Kezzy a bottle for the first time. She was pretty much in heaven feeding a real baby a real bottle instead of her doll!

"Kezelle"

Image
Raquelle and Keziah no longer have their own names. They are now both referred to as "Kezelle". I don't know if I have heard Thad call either girl by their actual name since Kezzy is born. He is constantly calling Raquelle Kez and Keziah Kell. Then, he tried to catch himself mid word and ended up calling Raquelle Kezelle. I told him if he really wants to name a child Kezelle, he will have to wait until the next girl that we have. He blames sleep deprivation. Anyway, here are some cute pictures from today. Kezzy in her dress all ready for church. Kezzy modeling her first pair of my size newborn baby leggings! They were a little harder to make then bigger sizes because they are so small. And a nice close up of her pretty face. There is just a hint of purple left around her mouth if you look closely. Unfortunitely, the gention violet did not work and Kezzy and I both still have thrush. So, for now I have switched to pumping and bottle feeding. I am hoping that when...

2 weeks old

Keziah is 2 weeks old today! Yeah! We had her 2 week check up this afternoon and spent way too much time there. The nurse was running behind, so although we only saw the dr for 10 min, we sat and waited for the nurse for about 40. It was very frustrating. Keziah weighed 7 lbs 14 oz and is 20.5 inches long. I still think it is funny that at birth the nurse who measured her said that she was 23 inches tall! Should I be concerned that she shrunk 2.5 inches in her first 2 weeks of life? (Kidding). Anyway, She is kind of slow growing, so we have to go back in 2 weeks again. They wanted her to be over 8 lbs today and she was a little short. She did grow, so we get to go in 2 weeks instead of 1. The Dr wants her to be 9 lbs by her next check up now. I personally think she is doing just fine and she is just petite. Anyway, her jaundice is all better. She has blocked tear ducts in both eyes...nothing to worry about, but it means she has goopy eyes until they open. And of course,...

Kezzy update

Image
I know I said I'd have an update up yesterday, but I've had 4 kids under 3 to take care of yesterday afternoon and evening and all day today. So, here is the promised update. At her dr apt on Tuesday she had gained 7 oz! They wanted her to gain at least 3 oz. She is still Jaundice, and of course still has thrush, but at least the jaundice is less. The dr said we could go to 3 hours in between feedings, unless she is hungry before then. At our visit with the lactation consultant we found that she is still taking just a little over 2 oz per feeding which is still short of what she should be taking. However, since she gained enough weight, they are allowing me to stop giving her bottles. They said that if she is fussy after eating instead of acting satisfied and content, then to give her a bottle and pump...otherwise, we can go to all nursing now. They also said that as long as she is getting at least 8 feedings ina 24 hour time period, we can let her sleep at night inst...

1 week old!

Image
I thought I'd post some pictures that got missed in the middle of Keziah being born and such. Thad and Marjorie took Titus and Raquelle trick or treating. Thad would like to specify that Titus is a "boy bug", not a lady bug...as in the boy lady bug from a Bugs Life. On Halloween, Winco changed the price on all of their pumpkins to Free! So Thad got a couple. Here is Raquelle trying to eat her pumpkin with a plastic fork. Thad was home from work today, so this is how he occupied Titus and Raquelle for most of the morning. He gave them the big bowl of pumpkin goo and told them to find all the seeds and put them in their containers. Raquelle holding her baby sister Keziah is 1 week old today! And for anyone looking for an update on Keziah, her Bili levels were 10.9. The dr would like them to be less then 6, but 10.9 isn't too high yet. So for now, we are focusing on trying to get her to wake up often enough to eat so she can start gaining weight. He wanted her bac...

Off to a rough start

Kezzy had her first dr check up today. So far, she is still losing weight. I guess they expect a baby to lose 5 to 7% of it's body weight before they start gaining and they expect them to be back up to their birth weight by 7 to 10 days old. Any weight loss over 10% is a big red flag that something isn't right. Kezzy is 6 days old and currently has lost 11% of her body weight and has not started to gain yet. She is also jaundice and has thrush. So, from the dr office, we went to the hospital to have blood drawn to check her bili levels. I haven't heard back yet what they are but am hoping that she won't need to go back to the hospital. From there, we went to see the lactation consultant. Found that she is eating just over 2 oz in a feeding. That would be fine if we could get her to wake up to eat more often and if she would take that much every feeding. The jaundice is making her very sleepy though and it can be difficult to get her to take a full feeding. T...

Birth story - the SHORT version.

We went in for an induction on Tuesday evening October 28 th . We checked into the hospital at 6 PM. To start with, my Cervix was so far posterior that my dr could not reach it to check me. So, based on my check up last week, we started with Cytotec. At 10 PM when it would have been time for the 2 nd dose, they put me on the monitors. The baby's heart rate was running between 180 and 190 and I was having some contractions. So they decided not to give me a 2 nd dose at that time and told us to try to get some sleep. At 5 AM, my nurse came in to put me on the monitor. I was having contractions every 3 min that were lasting 1 min long each and they were at a pain level where I was having to focus through them. The nurse checked and said she thought I was 2 ½ cm and 60% effaced! We went back to trying to sleep for a couple more hours. By 7:00, when they put me on the monitor again, ctx had spaced out to about 5 min apart and by 8 AM they had pretty much stopped. At 9:00, my dr came b...
